The Best Portable Electric Space Heater I've Ever Had!

A few years ago I bought a rather cheap Portable Electric Heater by Holmes. I didn't expect much, it was the cheapest heater in the store and I needed something right away since my room in the basement is not connected to the home heating system so it can get quite cold in the winter.

Over the years I've tried many different brands of portable electric heaters, and most were serious disappointments. The heater I had used the year before wasn't working anymore, and the cold weather was on the way.

I honestly thought I was just buying some cheap heater to get me by until I could afford to shop around for one of those more expensive Portable Electric Heaters everyone was telling me I should be using. I never expected it to last for several seasons.

What Do I Love About This Portable Space Heater?

I am so glad I did go with the "cheap" Holmes Portable Electric Space Heater because it has proven to be the Best Portable Space Heater I've even owned!

Holmes Portable Electric Space Heater

The single control button is used to turn the electric heater on, then cycle it through the two power levels, 1000 and 1500 watts, which correspond to the LEDs marked as "Low Power" and "High Power" on either side of the control button.

Portable Space Heater Controls

Each power level has identical thermostat settings, "No thermostat", "60°F", "65°F", "70°F", "75°F" and "80°F", which are shown by the LEDs in line above the control button.

There is a discrepancy between the temperature I set on the heater, and the real temperature in the room since the heater is set on the floor where it is cooler, and the thermometer I use to measure room temperature is mounted higher where the warm air builds up.

I usually start out at the higher 1,500w setting to get the chill out, then a few clicks of the control button to switch it to to a lower temperature at the lower power setting. After that, I usually do not have to touch the heater's control for the rest of the night.

I love that once I select a temperature, the heater automatically turns itself on and off to maintain the set temperature level.

This wasn't the first heater that would cycle itself off to maintain a temperature level I had used, but it was the first time I had a heater with more than just "High", "Medium" and "Low" or some knob with notch marks and a "High" and "Low" on either side.

This Holmes Portable Electric Space Heater is also the quietest space heater with a fan I've ever had. It silently cycles on and off through out the night without making enough noise to wake me. If it didn't have little LED lights, I would forget it's even on.

I also love the all plastic housing, I've eliminated plastic from most of my life, but there are some situations where plastic is much better than metal.

Unlike all-metal electric heaters I've had in the past, this one never gets too hot to touch. I guess the plastic doesn't absorb the heat like metal units do. I would consider this to be a safer heater to use with children and pets in the house

I've also dropped this unit many times, and these are recent pictures of it. It hasn't broken yet. There are no cracks in the housing, and if the outside of this heater was metal, it would probably have quite a few dents by now.

Portable Space Heater Power Button

I've seen some reviews of people who complain about needing to click the button so much, because you must click through all cycles to get to the off setting, and if you want to change settings, you can only go through the cycles in one direction which often causes you to have to cycle through all the settings. I found it annoying at first, but after a while, I've become use to it.

This is a newer, more stylish version of the Holmes Portable Electric Space Heater. Like my older model, it has the same single-button control, which I love. After years of using heaters with knob controls, It did take time to get use to, but now that I've been using it for the past few years, I can't see going back to heaters without a single button.

I can understand why some people might get frustrated with the one touch, so it is nice that these Holmes HFH421-U Power Heaters are available.

This works just like mine, but has the knob controls most people are use to. If I had been given the choice to begin with, I probably would have bought this type of heater.

This is definitely for anyone who wants a Holmes Portable Electric Space Heater, but either doesn't want to try one with the one touch control, or did try the one touch control, and did not like it.

I've tried many different types and brands of heaters and none have done as well of heating my bedroom as this unit from Holmes does.

Even though it still works as well as the day I bought it, I'm tempted to upgrade to the new energy efficient model because of it's ability to switch between the high and low power setting automatically.
